World Masters Orienteering Championship, Portugal: 28th June - 5th July

Tricia Walker writes, on 23/12/07:

Robin and I are flying from Bristol to Lisbon with Easyjet on Sunday 29th June, returning on Sunday 6th July. This allows us to run in two Open races, the two WM Qualifiers and the Finals – only Monday 30th June is without an event for us, that being the day of the Sprint Finals. If you do want to run in the Sprints you have to be there for Qualifying on 29th June, and the Opening Ceremony is on the 28th.

You can also fly from Bristol with Ryanair to Porto – the events are roughly halfway between Lisbon and Porto. The Event Centre is at Marinha Grande and we are staying in an apartment in a place called Sao Martinho do Porto, about 10 km south of Nazare.

Closing date for World Masters entries is April 1st – last date for cheaper entries was January 1st. Portugal should be a lot more culturally interesting than Finland was last year – if you can find the time around the orienteering.

O-Ringen, Dalarna, Sweden: 21st-25th July

Jonathan Hurford writes:

The Swedish O-Ringen is the largest orienteering event in the World, with about 16,000 competitors over a 5 day competition.

The 2008 event will be based at the Lindvallen ski area in Central Sweden, close to the Norwegian border, all accommodation will be in chalets, cabins and hotels, at £25-£36 per person for the 5 nights. Self-catering will be available in all accommodation. Buses and cable car to the events will be arranged for each day.

Several BOK families have expressed an interest, so I’ve registered myself as BOK contact and provisionally reserved some accommodation.

If you are interested in joining a BOK party to Sweden please let me know by 1st July 2007 and I will coordinate accommodation.

Update from Jonathan on 02/01/08:

BOK now have a group of 20 entered for the 2008 Swedish O-Ringen at Dalarna.  If anyone else is interested, there is still a little time left to reserve accommodation and arrange entries.  Please let me have details by the end of January.

French 6 Days, Aveyron:  3rd-9th August

John Simmons writes:

After the Scottish 6 days last summer there is a move to find something warmer and drier this year. Two Milne families and the Simmons family are off to the French 6 days event at Aveyron, down near the Parc National des Cevennes, from 3rd to 9th August.  Registration before 29th Feb is cheaper (fees need to be sent in advance as a bankers transfer).
