Bristol Orienteering Klub's first event after the summer break takes place this Saturday, 15th September 2007, at Ashton Court, Bristol. The event incorporates the club's annual 'Try-O' (try orienteering) promotion, with simple courses available for first-timers and lots of help and advice available. The courses offered for more established orienteers follow the 'score event' format where competitors accumulate a score by visiting, in any order, as many checkpoints as possible within a fixed time. You don't have to be a member of a club in order to take part - new faces are always welcome. LocationAccess to the event is possible ONLY via the Bower Ashton entrance to Ashton Park. Turn into Kennel Lodge Road from the A369 (Clanage Road) at national grid reference ST564717:Please follow the orienteering signs to the car parking location, which is close to the Ashton Court Mansion, and obey the marshals' instructions. CoursesShort and long Try-O (try orienteering) courses.30, 40, 50 and 60 minute courses using the 'score event' format. There will also be a 'string course' for very young children, where the competitors use a simplified child-friendly map and are guided around the course by a string laid on the ground (or by ribbons tied on branches). Start TimesRegistration 10:00am to 12:00pm. Start times 10:30am to 12:30pm. Courses close at 2:00pm.Entry FeesTry-O: £1.50Score event: From £1.50 to £7 dependent on age and course plus £1 to hire an electronic tag (free for juniors) if you don't have your own . Note: Charges are "per map/tag", so you only pay one fee if you run as a team using a single map and tag.
