Bristol Orienteering Klub's next event takes place this Sunday, 16th March 2008, at Silk Wood, within Westonbirt Arboretum. "This schools' event is particularly suitable for beginners, children and adults alike, and for family orienteering fun, or indeed for an excellent run in the beautiful woods of Westonbirt Arboretum, splendid at any time of year," says the event's organiser Stephanie Milne. "There are the excellent facilities of the Maples restaurant and Courtyard cafe, serving great food and hot drinks, plenty of toilets and of course the Westonbirt shop with its roaring log fire. If anyone feels like more exercise the winding and pretty trails of the Arboretum itself surround you! Come for a great day out!" You don't have to be a member of a club in order to take part - new faces are always welcome. If you are a beginner, look out for the helper wearing an "ask me" tabard or simply ask at the registration tent. CoursesThe following colour coded courses are on offer: white, yellow, orange, light green, green and blue; these courses are graded according to technical difficulty and length - click here for a more detailed description of what the colour standards mean.There will also be a string course for very young children, where the competitors use a simplified child-friendly map and are guided around the course by a string laid on the ground (or by ribbons tied on branches). Courses close at 3:00pm.Entry FeesFrom £1.50 to £7 dependent on age and course plus £1 to hire an electronic tag (free for juniors) if you don't have your own .Discount of £2 for senior members of British Orienteering. Non-members may claim a £2 discount at their first three BOK events (ask for details). Charges are "per map/tag", so you only pay one fee if you run as a team using a single map and tag.
