We are looking to recruit an Assistant Club Captain to work alongside Paul Gebbett our current Club Captain, this season, with a view to taking over the role when he stands down later in the year.

Paul Gebbett
Paul Gebbett - Current BOK Captain

“I have been doing the role of Club Captain for a number of years now and in that time BOK has had some great success. We have won the Compass Sport Cup twice (annual club cup competition) and have had many other relay race successes."

"The support from the club at all levels has been great, and I have enjoyed my run at the role, but it is now coming up to the time for me to pass it on to someone else, so that I can move on to other areas to support the ongoing development of BOK. It would be great if someone could start now for this season so that we can work it together and hopefully make the handover process much easier.” says Paul.

He adds: “The main role is to arrange teams for the Compass Sport Cup and the two major relays (British Champs and JK) each year. This involves getting in touch with members to get names, enter events by the closing date and for the relays undertake team declarations on the weekend of the events. For the Compass Sport Cup Final, this would normally also include arranging coach travel and accommodation (depending on location/distance of travel). The role is a committee role and includes attendance at committee meetings when possible. As Club Captain, I have also taken on the role of selling the club tops and ordering these from the stockist and also keeping hold of a club tent and banner and getting these to major events but I have regularly had volunteers to take these when logistics are difficult and this role could be given to someone else."

"It is a really enjoyable role and you get to know many club members, across all the age groups and ultimately share in the Clubs successes. If you are interested in the role or would just like to find out a bit more, please do get in touch or just find me at an event (when I am fit again to run!) and have a chat. It would be great if someone could start to work with me this season so that I can properly handover anyone taking on the role. Many Thanks, Paul” bokclubcaptain@gmail.com.

Charles Daniels, Club Chairman adds “The Club Captain is a major and important officer; he/she leads the team and is responsible for the competitive side of the club. He/she organises the teams for the competitions we decide to enter. It will involve publicising the events, (but you will have help from Amy and the team with that), identifying participants, selecting and entering teams, and as Paul mentioned, sometimes arranging transport. With a big club like BOK, rejigging teams due to injury etc. over the weekend of the race is the norm, so it’s a great way to get to know your club mates!. It’s a role that can be done individually, as a couple or as a job share. It would also be great if previous Captains, other officials who fancy a change, and other members of the club young or not so young, all consider taking on this role as it is a key role to BOKs success. Please volunteer. Thanks Charles."
