BOK Juniors

In BOK, we have a thriving and sociable junior team, made up of members of all ages and abilities. Our goal is to provide junior orienteers in the club with a range of opportunities, including sociable 'away-days', access to regional and national competitions and even the occasional overseas tour!

We also work closely with the South West Junior Squad to enable juniors to take their orienteering to the next level and represent their region in national competitions.

The club organise many events throughout the year, including our 'Local Events' perfect for juniors and newcomers, as well as more experienced orienteers. These races also count towards the BOK Junior League, open to all BOK junior members. This is a chance to put your skills to the test against others, but also to meet up and get to know your team mates. The events are all local to Bristol and Bath, with courses designed specifically for beginners. Why not come along, meet the team and have a go?

A message from Amy, our current junior captain:

"Hi, I’m Amy and I’m the BOK junior captain for 2019. I started orienteering in 2017 through my school. I quickly managed to encourage my parents to start orienteering too! I orienteer most weekends during term time and compete at multi day events during the holidays. Over the summer I spent a week in Scotland, navigating the tricky (and marshy!) terrain near Perth. At the end of September, I am competing for the South West Junior Squad at the Junior Inter Regional Championships.

Bristol Orienteering Klub provides many opportunities for juniors of all levels. When you start, you automatically join the Bristol Junior League, where you can run different colour coded courses. As you progress, there are many regional and national events. The more experienced juniors can progress to the South West Junior Squad if they can run light green happily.

BOK enters two main Junior events each year: the Yvette Baker trophy and the Peter Palmer Relays. The Yvette Baker is a team competition, where everyone runs a line course and is awarded points on their placing. The Peter Palmer Relays are an exciting relay run half in the dark!"
